Job Search Services
The WorkPlace Group offers employment services to persons residing in Lambton County to assist them in preparing for, obtaining and keeping a job. These services may consist of an employment needs assessment the development of a Return to Work Plan, individual employment counselling, advice about job loss, retraining and education, job search techniques, labour market information, job placement services, and on-the-job follow up. We offer supports in the area of Career Planning, Job Search, Job Placement and Job Maintenance.

Employment Counselling
Employment Counselling assists people in finding and keeping employment. Working with an Employment Counsellor, you are assisted to identify your employment strengths and challenges and create a step by step "Return To Work Action Plan" that will assist you to reach your employment goal.

Ontario Targeted Wage Subsidy
The Ontario Targeted Wage Subsidy is designed to:

  • Provide on-the-job work experience to unemployed eligible people who are experiencing difficulty in finding work in their chosen occupation;
  • Enable employers to hire eligible people who need work experience by reimbursing a short-term wage subsidy for a full-time job that leads to permanent employment.

Timing and amount of the reimbursed subsidy are negotiable. The job should lead to permanent employment after the subsidy ends. All the hourly wages and deductions are paid by the employer to the participant at the wage rate they normally pay for that occupation. Other criteria may apply.

If you are TWS eligible, your Employment Counsellor will provide you with instructions on how to apply to advertised and unadvertised jobs using TWS to market yourself.

Second Career
Laid off? Looking for a new career? Second Career is an Ontario government program that can help you:

  • Train for a new career
  • Find out what is needed in the job market
  • Learn about careers that build on your skills
  • Get financial support

Second Career helps people get the training or education they need to get a good job. It provides financial help up to $28,000 to pay for tuition and things like:

  • Books
  • Living expenses
  • Help caring for dependents
  • Travel
  • Transportation
  • Disability supports
  • Other living and training costs

    Ontario Skills Development
    Ontario Skills Development can help you with short-term training to build your skills and get a job. It can provide you with:

  • Financial help for things like books and tuition fees
  • Better chances for finding a long-term job
  • Skills upgrading
  • Work experience
  • Assistance for self-employment
  • Job search support

    Ontario Job Creation Partnership
    Ontario Job Creation Partnerships is an employment program that provides work experience to unemployed job seekers within projects that benefit the community or local economy. At the end of their participation, participants in the program will have recent work experience and additional skills to add to their résumés, increasing their chances of successfully finding long-term employment.

     Ontario Self-Employment Benefit
    The Ontario Self-Employment Benefit helps unemployed people start their own businesses. Successful applicants experience 10 weeks of intensive business skills development training while completing a comprehensive business plan that fully supports their business idea. In addition, participants are provided with ongoing business advisor counseling services and income support for up to one year while they develop and implement their business plan.

    Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities

    The Opportunities Fund is a Service Canada program designed to help people with disabilities prepare for and obtain employment or self-employment. It can also help develop the skills you need to keep the new job. The Opportunities Fund can provide:

    The financial help may cover a range of expenses that are incurred directly as a result of employment or training. Individual participants may receive support toward certain other expenses, such as tuition, commuting and care for their dependants. Funds may also be provided to cover the costs of special arrangements or devices to accommodate a person with a disability.
