Employment Resource Centres - Information and Referral Services

The WorkPlace Group provides resource, information and referrals to the community on local training and employment opportunities, community service supports, occupational and training requirements and resources to support independent or “unassisted” job search, career clarification and planning, and informed education, training and employment decisions. Staff members are available to provide general direction and guidance.

Individuals can obtain information about:

  • The local labour market; careers and occupations, and local business directories;
  • Education, training opportunities and requirements including apprenticeship and self-employment information;
  • Career planning and job search strategies, assistance with the preparation of a resume, cover letter and interview skills;
  • All Employment Ontario programs and services and other community programs, services and resources that support employability
  • Access to email, computers, the Internet, newspapers, telephones, fax, printer and photocopy equipment to support job search;
  • A variety of self-directed software to learn at your speed including Microsoft® Office programs and Mavis Beacon® typing program;
  • Access to adaptive devices for persons with disabilities including assistive keyboards, mice, trackball, low mobility software and a Reading Pen®;
  • Support for computer and Internet use, including identification of sites for such things as online self-assessment, employment preparation, career, employment and training decision-making;
  • Information on workplace safety, including rights and responsibilities of individuals and employers.

 

Employment Resource Centres are located at The WorkPlace in Sarnia and The WorkPlace County Outreach in Petrolia.
